It was a close race! I mean really close! But in the end Kelsey Banks passed Ashley’s fierce mohawk yesterday with her classic look she called “The Carrie Underwood”. That’s Kelsey’s fourth win in a row and since it’s best out of seven, our contest has come to an end and KELSEY BANKS IS OUR WINNER!

Congratulations Kelsey! You’ve won four products from Aveda’s amazing Smooth Infusion line and an Infrashine Flat Iron!!!

And thank you so much to all the other participants for you’re amazing, creative styles! This has been SO FUN!

The people have spoken and Kelsey Banks takes another win for the day with her double bun! Yesterday the competition was intense! We received over 100 votes! So far both days Kelsey’s closest competitor has been Stephanie (#2). These two ladies are giving a good fight! They’ve been practicing! BUT everyday is a new day and there’s still 5 more days to be voted on. Yesterday we got 2 new competitors!

Will one of our new girls steal the throne from Kelsey?! Will Stephanie pull ahead in today’s poll?!! What do these girls have up their sleeves for today?!! Oh the drama!!!!

Get most from your mousse!

Pastels for more than Easter eggs this year…

What’s he hottest look out there right now? Pastels. You can’t flip through any fashion magazine without seeing them and they’re all over the runway.

Want to try the look without taking the permanent plunge? Hair chalking is one way to do it. All you need is a spray bottle a curling iron and some artists pastels.

Lightly spray the hair with water first. Take desired color and rub onto the hair. Lighter hair will allow the color to show up more but you can still achieve the look on dark hair. (See mine below)

Then use a curling iron to style and set the color.

It will only last until you wash it and be sure not so wear white. The chalk will get on your clothes.

Blush 101… Tips from a pro on how to get Chic Cheeks

If you know Tessa, you know she loves blush! And so should you but there’s a right way and a wrong way to use it. Here’s the basics on blush. Glow on, ladies!

1. Tap or lightly blow on the applicator brush to remove any excess blush before applying to prevent a harsh and uneven application.

2. Apply your blush on the apple of the cheek and carefully blend towards your natural hairline.

3. If you have two shades, apply the darker one on the apple of the cheek first, then use the lighter shade to highlight. Blend well so there is no visible line between colors.

4. Highlight your temples, forehead and chin.

Feeling inspired??? Here’s a couple of fun looks to try:

THE SUN-KISSED

Add bronzer to your forehead, chin and nose before you apply blush. Use a big blush brush and a light hand for the most natural looking sunny glow. I often hear the complaint “bronzers are too orange on me”. If you are struggling finding a bronzer for yourself, try using a powder that is a couple shades darker than your natural skin tone.

THE HIGHLIGHTED GLOW

Experiment with different ways of shading. Try a Making a “C” shape from your temples to your cheekbones using a sheer highlighting powder.

Helpful Tips:

-To know “where to glow” bend over for 30 seconds, then slowly stand up. Where your cheeks are flushed is where you are meant to blush. Apply your blush there and it will be naturally rosy every time.

-Use a darker or brighter shade for a more dramatic effect at night.

-If you’ve gone a bit too heavy on the powder blush, a bit of translucent powder over it will calm it down. For cream blush blot the color off with a tissue.

January is already over and the Citrus Salon team is warming up for wedding season! Last years season was a blast! We got the pleasure of meeting so many beautiful brides and their friends and family. Even some of our closest friends tied the knot!

Placing the veil on the bride or finishing their makeup with that last touch of lipstick is a special moment for us. Making brides look and feel beautiful on their wedding day brings us so much joy and we can’t wait for the season to begin.

Citrus Salon welcomes new stylist, Hollie Matute!!

That’s right! We’ve got a new addition to the Citrus family and we couldn’t be more happy about it! Welcome Hollie! It’s great to have you!

Hollie Matute’s love for hair design began at a young age. Being the daughter of a stylist, it was inevitable. Twirling in the chair next to her mother, Hollie watched as her mother transformed her clients into new people. This young stylist-to-be always knew the path that lay ahead for her. She would be a creative, hard working and talented hair artist. Just like her mother.

Hollie’s resume includes working with Paul Mitchell top stylists and hair designing for fashions shows in San Francisco. Her extensive training in advanced cutting, coloring and styling with Paul Mitchell, Orbe, Unite, Joico and Tigi have lead her to blossom into the creative hair stylist she is today.

Hollies passion for doing what she does best is what lead her to find a home in Citrus Salon in her home town of Martinez. Her co-workers describe her addition to the Citrus team as “the cherry on top!”. Her inspired energetic attitude and her natural talent make her the perfect fit for Citrus Salon.

Craving some change? A fresh new look for the new year… Here’s an idea. If you’re thinking about going short but you want to do something different than the sleek bob or A-line, try a blunt, but still textured bob with long choppy layers. The more I see this look the more I love it. And, it’s easy to style! Just blow dry and flat iron as usual, (if needed) making sure your ends are stick straight, then mist them with some KMS Dry Wax Spray, give your head a good shake and viola, your ends are perfectly piecey!

What happens when you swing over the swing set? Reverse ombre?

I’m always keeping my eye out for what’s new and hip in the world of hair styles. Last time I was doing my homework I stumbled upon the newest hair craze. The “reverse ombre”. Hmmm…still chewing on this one. I definitely like it on the brunette more then Ms. Simpson but I think the same feel could be achieved by tinting only the underside a little bit darker and then cutting layers to allow it to show more. (Just a little bit darker though! It’s time to let go of the Christina Aguilara “Dirty” look ) Check out Gwyneth and Nicole below. In my opinion they’ve nailed it! What do you think? Is the “reverse ombre” the next style you’ll try?
